It seems that someone has already cleaned out Loantaka pond. There is a fake coyote and a flashing light has been installed to discourage water fowl from landing and breeding. My husband and I always enjoyed seeing the baby ducklings and geese every spring.
I loved watching the swans glide and the troops of geese land with swishing precision of ace pilots. We also viewed with great interest the family of snapping turtles that lived below the little foot bridge.
The loss of the fowl seems to have caused these turtles to disappear as well. The field of rosemary that was home to bevies of gold finches has been mowed to crew cut precision. Also mowed down were grasses that were home to blue birds.
Clean up Loantaka??? It’s been cleaned out of everything that we had come to love about the place!!
I know what the “company line” to this comment is. The geese poop and this is unclean and annoying. Yes, geese poop, but so does every animal. That’s no reason to banish them. I recently saw a mother goose and her babies stuck on a small median on
    Columbia turnpike.
There is a sign at Loantaka that says feeding the waterfowl is unhealthy for them. The way they are treated now is infinitely more unhealthy.
